Dinner and Drinks

Saturday night I caught up with a friend for dinner and drinks in Ponsonby. We headed to Ponsonby Central as neither of us had eaten there before, but I'd been meaning to go for months!

Ponsonby Central has about 8 different mini restaurants to choose from. By mini I mean the spaces are pretty small and you can't make bookings, its quite trendy and people pop in for some food then can go along somewhere else for drinks or dessert.

We wandered around and checked out all the menus, then with my LCHF diet in mind we decided to go for the Japanese place - Tokyo Club.

Little Sister Cafe

I had a day off last week and met up with mum for brunch. We decided to go to Little Sister as I'd heard so many good things but it is only open Monday - Friday, so I'm usually unable to get there.

Antoine's Parnell

A few weeks ago I was invited to be one of Zomato's approved bloggers (which was all very exciting!) Zomato is a Restaurant/Cafe review website and I had written a few little reviews on their site for some places I had also blogged about. So I met up with one of their team members for dessert and a chat and she gave me a couple of vouchers to visit Antoine's

I scoped out their menu and saw that it was all very extravagant, and invited a friend of mine to come along for dinner last Friday night.

We kicked the night off with drinks at NSP, I had never been here before and LOVED it. The place has a restaurant as well as a separate bar, so we ordered our drinks and sat down in the bar section under vines and fairy lights, with a view of the restaurant within.

Cheeky Low Carb Pancakes

So last week I started a Low Carb High Fat diet - or LCHF - after hearing rave reviews from people and doing a bit of online research. The beauty of this diet is you don't get hungry, and a lot of your cravings disappear as you are allowed to consume as much fats as you want. The tag line being FAT is your FRIEND!

There are loads of  free recipes online to help you stick to your diet, varying from dinners and breakfasts, to sweets and snacks. I decided to try these Low Carb Pancakes for dinner last night - because who doesn't love a breakfast for dinner???

Beautiful Bali

Lately Ive been getting so many updates in my facebook newsfeed from friends who are in Bali, and it is making me super, super jealous and wishing I were back there! It was about 2 years ago that I was in Bali on a family holiday and I thought I'd share some of the pictures so I can dream a little whilst sitting here in rainy Auckland........

We stayed in the most beautiful private villa called Villa Champuhan, it was stunning! Ive never stayed anywhere like it. The villa was completely secluded and included our own private infinity pools which were beautiful to swim in, and meant no having to wait for sun-loungers!

The Green Keeper Cafe

After our workout we went in search of brunch, to undo all our hard work. Or as I prefer to think of it, I worked out so that I could go eat yummy food.

Get Fit for Summer!

This weekend I felt like I got so many things done, took my car to get a WOF and thank god it passed - so that's another 6 months up my sleeve! I went out and voted for our general election in NZ - cue the obligatory post voting selfie

I got my hair coloured - very important when you have regrowth and multiple colours coming through - and I went to the gym, 3 times in 2 days! That is some kind of record for me! The reason for that being that I trialed a morning workout at one of Auckland's most popular gyms - Les Mills.

Shaky Isles

I met up with a friend for brunch in Kingsland and we decided to go to Shaky Isles. Ive been here a couple of times (the first being delicious, and the second not so much) so I was keen to give it another shot.

Coconut Oil

Ive heard SO many good things about coconut oil and the benefits of using it on your skin, hair and in your cooking, but it wasn't until last week that I actually decided to buy some and give it a try.

I bought the "Now Foods, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil" from iHerb which you can find here. I decided to go with this product as it is 100% pure, Cold-Pressed and Unrefined, and Certified Organic.

Baguette & Co.

Ive heard good things about Baguette and Co. from a few of my workmates, one of whom had their lunch there today, so my cravings for french bread kicked in (does it ever really leave?!) and I decided to give it ago.

Orewa

After gorging ourselves on delicious market foods we headed to Orewa beach to walk it off and let the dogs have a run around. It was such a stunning, clear day, we could see for miles.

I've had a few questions about how you can follow my blog for updates on new posts, so I thought I'd pop it in a post for anyone else who might like to know. Its super easy!

If you want to follow via email:

  • Type in your email address and select submit
  • A box will pop up asking you to confirm you aren't a robot, then you will receive an email in your inbox confirming that you are wanting to subscribe. Just click on the link in the email and BOOM you are a new follower :)
Follow me on Bloglovin
If you have a blog already:
  • Copy my URL link at the top of your browser
  • Go to your blogger homepage and you will see the title "Reading List" on the left hand side. Underneath that is an "Add" button
  • Select add and a box will pop up where you can paste my URL link and select "Follow" - too easy!
Instagram and Twitter:
  • At the top right of my blog there is also a "Stay in Touch" section. Here I have Instagram and Twitter icons which you can click on and they will take you through to my corresponding pages
Of course there are also icons at the bottom of each post where you can leave a comment or share the post to facebook, twitter etc :)

Happy following!

Catalina

Saturday brought with it slightly overcast skies, and a friendly Parents vs Kids game of soccer for my little brothers end of season match.

I was originally going just as a supporter and to laugh at my parents, clad in zebra stripped gumboots due to the yucky rainy weather we had been having. However, it looked so much fun and my brothers begged me to play "at least one minute" so at half time I swapped into my trainers and jumped in.

It was so fun! We kicked butt of course. Made me want to sign up for a social soccer team next season! Although apparently "I run like a girl"......

Afterwards we went to my new favourite cafe in Hobsonville called Catalina.

A Wee Bit of Culture

So the weekend just past was pretty dreary and miserable. A stark contrast to the previous stunner! Weekends like that tend to put me in a pretty melancholy mood, and the darkness outside always seems to make it feel like it is later than what it actually is.

Nevertheless I met up with a mate for brunch on Saturday in Ponsonby. We had intended on checking out The Unbakery (also known as Little Bird Organic) however there was a 25min wait for a table for two, for BRUNCH! Which is slightly ridiculous, and also becoming one of those really annoying fashionable rituals. So we trotted off down Jervois Road to another little cafe which wasn't quite as fashionable but delicious none the less and provided a table instantly. Very important, as those of you who know me well know I can get a little grumpy when hungry.....oops.

After meandering around Ponsonby Road looking at some of the quirkier shops I decided to pay a visit to the Auckland Art Gallery

Pretty Little Things

Yesterday I had to visit a sports physician to find out whats wrong with my knee, so ended up taking the day off and had a lovely day shopping, eating and working out. Ok, the working out bit was not as lovely (apart from some of the beautiful people at the gym....haha)

On my way to my appointment I saw orchids for sale on the side of the road - 3 stems for $7 - a bargain! So had to stop off and get some cash to treat myself....

Piha

Auckland put up a beautiful weekend with stunning weather these last few days. The weekends are usually when the bad weather kicks in so I decided to make the most it and squeeze in a bit of exercise at the same time!

So on Saturday I took my doggies out to Piha for a walk along the beach - and dragged my brothers along too

Wild Oats

I have porridge every morning currently as its lovely and warming in the cold winter mornings. But at the moment I add brown sugar to sweeten the taste - which diminishes the healthyness of eating oats!

Im trying to watch my calorie intake as summer is just around the corner, so have been looking at some healthy but still yummy recipes online. Not including the nutella croissants I posted earlier haha!

This looks like just what I need to eliminate the brown sugar in the mornings

Sunday Wanderings

I was looking after my little brothers this weekend, and after playing soccer mom on Saturday I decided to take them to Western Springs with the dogs for some fresh air and exercise on Sunday.

Auckland Night Markets

On Friday night I went down to the local night markets for dinner. Recently Auckland has had these markets pop up in different suburbs across the city, ranging from Thursday - Sunday. People set up stalls with all sorts of food such as Mexican, Hungarian, Mediterranean, Japanese, French crepes etc.

We had some delicious Mediterranean bread stuffed with spinach and feta, some pork dumplings and a wood fire pizza with jalapenos, salami and olives. Was so yum!!! I really wanted a banana and chocolate crepe for dessert but was way too full and had to limit myself somewhere!

I took a few snaps of the guy making the dough for the pizza - he was throwing them in the air to stretch out the dough which was a little impressive

Watipu Caves

Saturday morning brought with it beautiful clear skies, so I decided to go on a little day trip with the Family to explore the Whatipu Caves in Auckland
